A sequel to 2021's crazy arcade driving game, clearly inspired by the cult classic Crazy Taxi. In Taxi Chaos 2 we're transported to the city of San Valeda and take on the role of a taxi driver, driving customers under time pressure, competing against TaxiBots, and expanding our fleet of vehicles. We can play in story mode or arcade mode.
Although the Crazy Taxi series, a collection of wacky arcade driving games that began in 1999, enjoys a cult status, it hasn't seen many imitators. Among the relatively small group of games inspired by Sega's classic was Taxi Chaos released in 2021. Years later, it received a sequel in the form of Taxi Chaos 2. It was not developed by the original creators but by the Dutch Focuspoint Studios, known for the racing game Cyber Clutch: Hot Import Nights.
Similar to the first installment of the series, in Taxi Chaos 2 we play as a taxi driver earning a living by taking passengers to their specified destinations. Some passengers may have special conditions for their rides, offering high bonuses in return.
This time, the game takes place in the city of San Valeda, with twelve-minute shifts behind the wheel setting the pace. During these shifts, we observe the city randomly changing, with streets being closed and shortcuts appearing on the map, which forces frequent route changes (or at least encourages looking for new opportunities).
Additionally, a day and night cycle has been implemented here, and the changing times of day affect visibility and traffic density. Since we are not alone on the streets, to avoid traffic jams and deliver the client to their chosen destination on time, we must learn to navigate not only the streets but also rooftops, water, and various terrain obstacles.
Moreover, we face TaxiBots on the road, which are autonomous taxis controlled by artificial intelligence. They can not only steal passengers but also block routes or behave aggressively towards us. Among them, we find vehicles such as crushers, destroyers, watchtowers, and even tanks called TaxiTanks. We can fight them, avoid them, or try to outsmart them and always stay one step ahead.
As we progress, we earn money that we can spend on developing the company and acquiring new taxis. Taxi Chaos 2 features three classes of cars: "drift cars" (capable of taking corners in spectacular drifts), heavy vehicles (allowing us to literally plow through traffic), and sports cars (their strength lies in acceleration and high top speed).
Additionally, over time we unlock combat and utility skills. The former include Sonic Blast and Tesla Shock, which allow us to deal with opponents by knocking them back or shocking them with electricity. Utility abilities, on the other hand, include a booster that provides a temporary "burst" of speed or Aqua Wheels that enable driving on water.
Taxi Chaos 2 offers a story mode in which we play as Vinny across various chapters, completing taxi missions and unlocking new ranks, thereby gradually climbing the career ladder. Besides that, there's an Arcade mode to explore, where we race against time and try to score as many points as possible by picking up passengers and facing increasingly aggressive TaxiBots.
