The seventh main installment in the cult series created and developed by Belgian Larian Studios, whose portfolio also includes the bestselling Baldur's Gate 3. Divinity is a standalone RPG and is not a sequel of the titles under the Divinity: Original Sin banner.
Released in 2002, Divine Divinity brought global recognition to the Belgian Larian Studios, especially among fans of the RPG genre it represented. Over the following years, the studio developed its own brand, eventually gaining such a reputation that it was entrusted with the task of creating the third installment of the iconic Baldur’s Gate series. Although Larian Studios excelled in this mission, when working on their next project, they chose not to create a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead, the studio returned to their original universe to prepare the seventh installment of their flagship series.
The RPG game simply named Divinity was announced in December 2025 during The Game Awards 2025. Along with the first trailer, the creators shared a handful of information about their project, promising players their most ambitious endeavor to date. Additionally, Swen Vincke, the head of the team, assured that Divinity is a standalone production, not a sequel of Divinity: Original Sin or Divinity: Original Sin II. On the other hand, players who had experienced the Original Sin adventures could expect to enjoy a "better understanding of the gameplay" compared to those who were just taking their first steps in this universe.
